My students need 30 sketchbooks in order to progress successfully through their drawing curriculum.

My Students
Keeping a sketchbook is something artists do to jot down ideas, drawings, inspiration and record events important to them. Drawing regularly in a sketchbook creates a pattern of routine that students benefit from in the art room and connects the art class with their other academic subjects.
My students attend an urban, inner city school in Connecticut.
The majority qualify for free and reduced lunch. In order for my students to have a well-rounded education, the arts are an integral part. By practicing visual art, it has been shown that students can improve concentration and focus in other academic areas. Students who often struggle with other aspects of school find a refuge in making and creating art.
My Project
Having my students each keep their own sketchbooks in seventh and eighth grade will vastly improve their drawing skills. This gives them their own personal space to practice and hone their skills without fear of their classmates judging their work. They will use their sketchbooks for weekly drawing assignments.
My students will have the chance to discover new ways of thinking and recording ideas on an empty page.
They can carry their sketchbooks with pride, knowing that they will be soon filled with evidence of their creativity and hard work.
