This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come from a variety of backgrounds. Each child is unique and wonderful. Almost all of the students at my school qualify for a free lunch. Some face many challenges.
My students are awesome and I only want the very best for them.
They come to school each day ready to learn. Many of my students don't have the opportunity to visit art galleries and museums. They may not have after school or summer art classes. I want my students to have rich and meaningful experiences in the art room.
My Project
I want each of my my kindergarten students to have their own sketchbook and drawing supplies. Very often a child will tell me that they don't have any art supplies at home. I want my students to keep these items to use when they are not at school.
Sketching and doodling builds creativity, improves focus and promotes stress reduction.
I believe these sketchbooks will offer my kids a creative outlet and an alternative to screen time. I will encourage my students to take their sketchbooks with them when they go out into the world. They will be able to observe the world and draw what they see around them.
