This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our high school has been the birthplace of the fashion industry since 1926. Every student that has graduated from our school may have not continued into the fashion path yet has been prepared for the continuing road to college and in the past the workforce.
Our mission of teaching the arts and the industry of fashion remains unmatched by any other US high school.
Our students are super talented and committed to their artistic dreams. They continue to be NYC residents that come from financially challenged families and despite these obstacles, prove to be resilient and driven.
My Project
Sketchbooks are an essential tools for all artists. Just like a writer may need a pen or paper, or a computer screen, a designer needs a sketchbook to fill with the designs they dream up in their creative minds.
To own a sketchbook gives a student the sense of authenticity and ownership and motivates them to design with intimacy and gusto.
Sketchbooks can be expensive and not affordable for families and even deemed as not a necessity yet for creative students, it is not just a sketchbook, it is the beginning of their artistic career.
