My Students

I teach middle school students on the South Side of Columbus, OH. We are a Title 1 priority school in our district. All of my students are learning full time but virtually for the time being which can be quite difficult. Many of my students don't have access to the same art supplies at home as they would in school. My students really love art and are eager to create. They show up each day participating and making the best of the situation we are all currently in. They're hardworking, determined, and I can't wait until we can get back in the classroom together. They are incredibly resilient and eager to learn each day.

My Project

Currently my students are all working from home each day. We meet live M-TH on Zoom calls and have started to do the best we can to make art projects together.

A lot of my students do not have the materials they need for art, starting with the most basic, a sketchbook.

Many students are working out of notebooks which are acceptable, but a true sketchbook has such a different feel when you're creating art. The lines in a notebook detract from what the student is making and limits them to thinking more creatively. If each of my students had a sketchbook to create their work in I think it not only would help them elevate their creativity and artistry but it would also help them to stay organized and prepared for class each day.
