My Students

Can you imagine being worried about where your next meal was coming from, and then finding out you needed to buy materials for your art class? My inner-city students face this dilemma every year, as they often cannot afford the required sketchbooks and pencils they need for my class.

My students are amazing, resilient kids who are facing the odds in an underfunded inner-city school in Massachusetts.

They are a diverse group of young men and women, sharing the common challenge of growing up poor in an urban city. Many of them work jobs after school to help their families survive. Rarely do they have extra cash for even the most basic of school supplies.

My Project

Artist notebooks will provide my students with a personal space in which to record their ideas and thoughts, reflect on their work, and create rough drafts of their final drawings. Not only will they encourage my students to improve their artistic abilities, they will strengthen their writing skills as well. Additionally, although the average #2 pencil works for standardized tests, my budding artists need artist's pencils for several reasons. One, they need to learn the function of each pencil, and two, they need an opportunity to practice with them.

My students will benefit tremendously from your generosity, and your donation will make a direct impact on their future.
