My Students

I teach Visual Arts in a low-income school, where we now face learning without our regular classroom. Many of my students have very troubled backgrounds, yet they are always looking forward to learning every day. My students range in ages from kindergarten through 8th grade and are always ready to dive into the next project.

Every single student has a very different personality and individual way of learning, which has made our current situation of remote learning twice as hard.

We have been building our small online community over the past couple of weeks, however we still have a long way to go.

As we find our rhythm this year and explore ideas on how to best learn virtually, my students are slowly coming out of their shells once again and really reflecting who they are in their work. As we learn more about each other as the year progresses, I see very talented students who only need the "space" and time to show what they can really do.

My Project

During these uncertain times, my students have learning from home. These first couple of weeks I have noticed the lack of proper supplies to keep up with our assignments. My students have always been extremely excited about art class in the past and the projects we usually have the chance to create, however this year we have started on a less exciting foot. With not enough time or resources to reach all of my students we have found ourselves working with what we have around. Though the projects we have been able to accomplish have been wonderful due to my students creativity, the amazing work we could accomplish with just a bit more would be even greater.

I know my students would be more eager to participate in class art projects and share with classmates if they had better art supplies like sketchbooks, but it has come to my attention that due to lack of resources they have become shy and embarrassed.

I would love your help to gather some materials to help regain my students confidence in their work!!
