My Students

I am very fortunate to teach in a school district in a growing area in the state of Indiana. My students are ten- and eleven-year old fifth graders who are interested in learning. What makes fifth graders so special is that most of them have never had a true science class until they step foot in my classroom door. I love taking their curiosity and turning it into a love of science!

As a graduate of my school district, I have seen the exciting changes that have happened over the last twenty years in the areas of growth and diversity.

The once small, rural community is now a thriving, suburban environment which brings new diversity to the classroom. This creates exciting challenges for me as an educator. I have the responsibility to expand their thinking about the natural world and how they interact with it!

My Project

Each year, I teach a unit on the skeletal system that leads into our bioengineering unit. Having a life-size skeletal model will make this unit come to life for my students.

Observing "Mr. Bones" bones and joints will provide a true understanding of how the human skeleton works.

We will be able to study the fourteen major bones of the body, look at placement of these bones and understand the importance of each. We will look at the largest and smallest bones of the human body and how our skeleton helps us do various movements.

"Mr. Bones" will bring learning to life! And I can't say that he won't throw on a costume at certain times of the school year too!
