Our art students come from a variety of socioeconomic, cultural, and artistic backgrounds. Some of our students come to us and have never created art. I work hard to incorporate art creation, aesthetics, art history, and art criticism into my students' lessons and make it my personal goal for these kids to enjoy walking into the art room to create! In our art room, we make connections to the core areas (math, reading, social studies, science, and writing) so students see that art connects to many parts of our lives.
Our art students are always creating, doodling, drawing, sculpting, folding, carving, critiquing, analyzing, comparing, and learning!
We are a busy classroom!
My Project
Each year, we walk our students to the hockey rink for class celebrations and to keep our kids moving through new experiences. The hockey association in our small town has been wonderful to our district - allowing us to utilize their facilities and skates for free. Many kids from our district attend open skate, skate for our hockey teams, and spend time at the rink.
This year, before winter break, our entire 8th grade class walked to the rink and utilized their facilities.
Not every kid was able to skate due to limited skate sizes. We would like to provide some larger sizes of skates so all students can participate on our next trip. Some of our kids with large feet didn't get to skate because sizes weren't available. The rink relies on skates donated by the public and patrons. If we get these skates funded, all of our students would be able to participate when we go!
