This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I have more skateboards in my classroom than I do books. My students are passionately captivated by skateboarding and I am on a mission to trick them into loving literature just as much. My students love to talk and create videos on skateboarding and my wish is for them to love reading and writing on the subject as well!
Skateboarding and reading are cut out of the same cloth, as both lead you to unknown worlds and challenge you to be better.
On most days, my students share stories from the neighborhood or skatepark about a new trick they learned, a scraped knee, a broken bone, and friends they met. Their eyes light up as they talk and I know having books to read on the subject will expose them to rich vocabulary they can apply in their next conversation or writing piece. I can already see how their faces will become illuminated when they see these books displayed in our classroom library.
