My Students

I teach in the true Small Town USA and wouldn't have it any other way! Our school is off the beaten path in a town populated by just over 200. The school houses around 70 students in K-8th grade. These children come from all socioeconomic backgrounds, but the majority are low income. These kiddos are exceptionally accepting of all students and take care of each other no matter what grade. Having taught at this school for over 15 years, I have seen many bright students with promising futures. I love our caring little spot in the world! Go Bobcats!

My Project

Our Middle School Science program needs some sizzle! I recently took over teaching 5-8th grade Science classes and discovered a big need in materials that will keep students interested and engaged in the fields of science. We are doing lots of hands-on activities with everyday items like straws and paper plates, but we are lacking in some more concrete manipulatives. For example, our Conservation department has provided so many fabulous learning activities that we love and fit into our curriculum, but my students will learn to LOVE science by having an opportunity like dissecting owl pellets! Building our own electromagnets in our energy unit? Now we are talking!! Every topic could get a little "sizzle" by adding these different hands-on activities to the lessons!
