Sixth Graders Need a Clean Start AKA Hygiene Supplies

My students need hygiene supplies including soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste and deodorant.

My Students

My students are economically disadvantaged. They attend an older, urban, public school that is coded as high poverty. All my students are eligible for free breakfast and lunch and many of them are the children of deployed military personnel. I have a number of students who are homeless or live in shelters. I have a transient student population. I have had over 50% of my class come and go during the course of the school year. Several of my students are also here in the United States for the first time, and English is not their first language. Many of of my kids do not read at grade level. Writing is a struggle for them. They generally do not have access to technology or reading materials outside of school.

The students in my sixth grade class are trying very hard to be successful but they need help with essentials that our school cannot supply.

My Project

My students live in an area that is becoming a pocket of poverty. Our school does not have a PTA for support. Although 100% of our students are eligible for free breakfast and lunch, we are not a Title 1 school. My students generally have families that are struggling to keep above the poverty line.

Many of my sixth graders lack basic hygiene supplies because their families simply cannot afford these "luxuries".

My students are sometimes dirty and smell. Some are being teased by other students. I have to do something to help my kids. I am asking for 24 toothbrushes, 2 cases of toothpaste, 2 packs of Degree antiperspirant, 12 deodorant sticks, 1 packs of sanitary supplies and 2 packs of body wash and 24 bars of soap. I know that these simple, basic resources will boost my students’ morale and self-esteem.

These requested supplies will enable my students to clean up and concentrate on their school work. Your donation will make a huge difference in the lives of my students.
