Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My amazing students are in the third grade. They are mostly English as second language learners and most are reading below grade level. Don't let that sound discouraging because they are some of the hardest workers that I know.
Although my students are reading below grade level they often comprehend at much higher levels.
Any addition to their education life is helpful. The students come in every day bursting with energy, ready and willing to try their best, and always going the extra mile. Each day brings on new challenges that they are ready to face.
My Project
In a recent study it was found that sitting on a yoga ball helped students stay focused and improved learning and reduced obesity by making children more active, researchers found that the ability to move around more while sitting made the students more attentive. In other words, students using yoga ball chairs were able to sit still, focus, and write more words clearly.
When students sit on stability balls, both sides of their brains are engaged in keeping their bodies centered on the balls.
When the brain is stimulated, it's more focused on learning. Not only is the brain better suited to processing new information, young minds are also better able to concentrate on exams, note-taking, class discussions, and other aspects of classroom learning.
These materials will make a huge difference for my students who are already working hard everyday!
