My Students
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I want to give them the best opportunity to learn and succeed.
They like to move, they love to read and LOVE lots of positive attention.
From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire each student daily to continue on a path of academic excellence.
My Project
Students having the opportunity to sit on therapy balls has been proven to improve behavior and legible work productivity. By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their academics.
Students using ball chairs were able to sit still, focus, and write more words clearly.
Mayo Clinic in Rochester found in 2007 with a study on the benefits of a chairless classroom. In the Mayo study, which focused on improving learning and reducing obesity by making children more active, researchers found that the ability to move around more while sitting made the students more attentive.
I have also included a classroom set a dictionaries. It is so important to give today's children another option and tool to find the definition to words. Technology is heavily relied on in today's world and I think it is so important to give them other options and avenues to grow.
