Sitting Option: Students Choosing Tools to Help Them Learn Better
My students need a variety of sitting arrangements. Being first grade students like to move and be active. We try to change our activities and classroom structure to give them an opportunity to move around. We need wobble chairs, balance balls and beanbag seats.
My students are all language learners. 80% of our day is spent in Spanish, which part of the class is learning Spanish as a second language. The other part of my class are emergent bilinguals who speak English and Spanish as a native language to a vary degree.
The class is made up of native Spanish speakers learning English as a second language as well as native English speakers learning Spanish as a second language.
We are all second language learners.
My Project
These seats will help our students focus better and improve their learning. With these sitting options students will have access to tools that enable them to move while focusing on reading, writing, listening, and other classroom activities.
Students will develop awareness of what tool work best for them, which will prompt them to take ownership of this aspect of their learning.
Each student is different and therefore it is important to have options that will meet their individual needs.
Research supports there is a strong correlation between movement and mental focus and learning. Thank you for supporting us in this project!
