Diverse learners is what we are. Kindergarteners are active learners that love new things. Each morning 24 kiddos walk into my classroom. Some with loving and smiling faces, others, sad and waiting for someone safe to hug them and somewhere safe to be.
These students come from different walks of life and each day we begin the adventure together.
Their stories are all unique and this makes learning hard (sometimes), interesting, fun, and exciting.
As a teacher, students speak into my life, as I speak into theirs. As I teach them, they help me learn to keep my eyes on what is most important...their hearts. As I love, encouragement, hug, smile, and say, "I'm proud of you!" I want to give them a safe fun place to learn. I want to provide a learning envioronment in my classroom that is best for each individual student.
I do have a few flexible seating areas in my classroom, but I would like to provide more areas where students can feel comfortable while they read or write. Kindergarteners love to feel "big" and the rug and chair setting will help them feel "big".
My Project
With a rug that has specific places for children to sit, I can place students on a particular color away from or next to someone who distracts or helps. Children need specific "places" to feel ready to learn and this rug will give me ways to place kids while learning. The chairs give students a way to sit and discuss while helping them feel "big" while they're reading, writing, etc.
The function of an inviting, comfortable classroom is a silent partner in engaging students.
This rug will give a space for the whole class to gather together.
