This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a second grade teacher at a low income public school in New York.
Throughout the day, my students gather at the carpet for read alouds, lessons, and meetings. The carpet is an important area of the classroom and it is the central part of our classroom library. The library bookcases surround the carpet on three sides, creating the possibility for an inviting and comfortable nook. However, our carpet is in not so good condition and I do not enjoy sending my students to have a seat.
I would love to have a new, clean carpet. It would make the library and meeting area complete.
I can just see my students gathered on the carpet to discuss their work, read independently, and, since the carpet I am requesting has the map of the United States, even inquire and learn about the states. The library area will become a place where students can take turns throughout the week to lie down on the carpet and read their books, and even a place where they can relax.
The new carpet will help create a more inviting classroom environment which in turn will allow students to feel comfortable enough to take risks in their learning. Please help me provide my students with a positive learning environment.
