Sitting Comfortably

My students need various flexible seating options so they can work around the classroom in various spaces instead of always in their desk chairs. Students need pillows to read on during reader's workshop time.

My Students

My students attend school in Los Angeles, California. We serve a variety of students in grades TK-5th. We are a Title 1 school, which means many students at our school qualify for free or reduced lunch. My students are from many diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds and are always eager to learn!

We are environmental activists!

Alongside learning to read and write, we learn about the world around us and how we can preserve the beauty of our environment on a daily basis. We love to work together and engage in many hands on activities that make learning come to life every day in our classroom. Most of all, we believe in ourselves!

My Project

My students spend most of their day sitting in their desk chairs. Whenever I sit in these chairs for a long period of time, they begin to feel uncomfortable. With these seating options, students will get a break from always sitting on their chair. They can work on writing at the kidney table and sit on stools (which also benefits posture) if they choose. They can also read and sit on pillows on the rug. Students can also use the pillows to sit at a lowered round table to work when reading or writing. Giving students the freedom to sit more comfortably will increase their engagement and motivation.
