My Students

I work at a school district that serves a student community that is 90% Native American. They are respectful, motivated, and eager to learn. Due to the rise in Covid cases within our community, our school has moved to 100% virtual learning. In our classroom, my students feel heard, respected and safe.

My Project

A student centered classroom begins by letting students choose the best seating style that fits with their learning style. With flexible seating in the classroom students are allowed to decide where and how they will sit to learn and not learn to just sit.

Students are to choose the best seating option for themselves to do their best learning.

Flexible seating provides students with the option to move during their learning because they do not have a certain area to seat.

Therefore, flexible seating gives students the power of choice. The power of choice provides students with the opportunity to be involved in their learning process and become great learners. I have seen how student choice can positively impact student growth. Allowing them to have choice in seating helps children to feel safe, emotionally comfortable, and engages them to learn in a way that works best for them.
