Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are reflections of the communities from which they live. They span the social/economical and racial/ethnicity spectrum as well as 9th grade to 5th and 6th year seniors . They are students who despite homelessness, absentee fathers, dysfunctional family dynamics, parental obligations, depression, suicide ideations, suicide attempts, severe anxiety, bullying, self medicating, and severe credit deficiencies they wake up every morning with the goal of becoming a high school graduate.
For some they will be the impetus behind a generational shift in their family as the first to graduate, or the first to attend college or a vocational/trade program or school.
Each are unique in their own respective because they decided to change the course of their lives by not giving up and learning to adapt and overcome the obstacles in their individual paths.
My Project
As a special service coordinator, I see many of my students struggle to find the balance between being attentive and the need for physical movement while learning. These items will give my students more options on how they release their extra energy, while also increasing their learning. No longer will their extra energy be viewed as a distraction, in my classroom room it will be part of the solution. From an individual to small group, whether a student is a visual, aural, verbal, physical, logical, social, and or solitary learner or a combination, these items will allow students a variety of opportunities to increase their attentiveness while decreasing their extra energy.
