Sit, Spin, Sensory Regulation

Help me give my students safe sensory integration sit and spin chairs for body training coordination of both the left and right side of the brain. These can be used inside and outside of the classroom.

My Project

My students will benefit from the ability to use the spin chair to help gain sensory regulation; increase their coordination, and decrease feelings of unease. I am on a continuous journey into understanding the social, emotional, and educational needs of of the autistic students in my classroom. (this is identity first language, preferred by the majority of the Autistic Community - instead of child with autism - it may sound new and strange to you).

The spinning movement allows many autistic children to stimulate their vestibular system, this supports their sense of balance, coordination, movement, and spacial orientation.

As a witness to the movement, I think - how is that calming? It makes me feel motion sickness, and yet for many of my students it has the opposite impact on their sensory system.

Once we gain sensory regulation, language development and engagement in learning increases.
