Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a high poverty/high needs farming community; all our students are faced with many challenges in their lives. Some students come from single parent households or are being raised by their grandparents. A little over 80% of the students in the school receive free or reduced-price lunch and more than half the student population is of Hispanic decent.

Despite this, we want our students to feel they have a place to go to learn.

The students are in classes that provide meaningful, fun, and creative learning experiences. We want them to know that we are a resource to help them with their academic growth and that they can succeed in class and in future endeavors.

My Project

Students will have an area to sit and listen to academic instruction in literacy and math. This space will also be utilized as an area for intervention sessions, playtime, and group activities.

My students will enjoy having an area in which they can sit and acquire academic knowledge.

As I give instruction to the students, they will be able to actively participate in lessons knowing they have a specific area to sit and participate in what is being said and taught.

When not participating in a lesson, the students will be able to use the carpet for a variety of activities such as doing group work, sitting for quiet time and refocus, and during inside recess on cold days.
