I teach in a Title 1 low-income school. My students come from diverse cultural backgrounds; some are identified as learning disabled, while nearly all are labeled EL (English language learners). For many, school is their safe place to learn, create, and interact with peers. My classroom is a place where the students are able to share ideas and grow as caring members of our school and outside community.
Despite any obstacles and challenges they may face, my fourth graders come to school each day energetic, curious, and eager to learn.
Their drive and enthusiasm is contagious. My students want to succeed!
My Project
Creativity happens in all kinds of places! Flexible seating options are being embraced in classrooms across the country. Young students need the opportunity to work and gather in all areas of the classroom. The portable lap desks will be used across all curricular areas, from meeting with others researching language arts projects, working in math workshop groups, using classroom technology to pursue reading and math review activities, to investigating social studies and science topics.
With an emphasis on collaboration and peer learning in my classroom, these portable lap desks will enable my students to work with others on their own terms, in their own space.
Students enjoy the flexibility of learning outside the confines of desks and chairs. I look forward to offering my students a myriad of seating options to get their creative and learning juices flowing!
