Ms. Phillips from Hope Mills NC is requesting flexible seating through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
See what Ms. Phillips is requestingMy students need comfortable seating for the maker space area we already have in our library. My students enjoy coming to the library for relaxation reading, playing board games or creating individual projects.

On a typical day in my library students can browse books or magazines, spend time in our maker space area working with manipulatives and technology robotic, digital tools making original creations, relaxing and reading a book or magazine, playing a board game, working on the lego wall, working on homework, and many other numerous activities encouraging individual or collaborative student time. The challenge is limited access to available seating for all students to have this opportunity.
I have the pleasure to serve as the Media Specialist for a Positive Behavior Support School in a low performing middle school in a lower income community.
It is a Title I school of 768 students. Demographically it is made up of 85 percent African American children with 100 percent of our students receiving Free breakfast and lunch. I am in a school where the principal is a strong supporter of my library including the maker space I am currently working to improve.
My students already enjoy the Maker Space area we have in the Media Center. Currently I have 2 tables, 4 chairs and a rug in the area. What we are lacking is some comfortable seating. The 3 beanbag chairs that I am requesting for my students already have a "home." In other words, I know exactly where they will go. We just need your help in getting everything into our area! Each beanbag chair will be placed around our existing carpet. Individual students or collaborative groups can read, play board games or work on creative projects. Often, students need time just to "chill out" or a safe place to "fall." Your contribution of these beanbags will not only serve as comfortable seating for academic purposes but also will serve on many other levels for my middle school students.
