My students need a picnic bench so that we can have more outdoor activities during our center and science time. Also, a picnic bench will give students an opportunity to sit and play with manipulatives.
Our kindergarten class is in a high poverty school. It consists of K-8th grade and includes students in special education and special needs programs. Our school supports one another and integrates students in mainstream curriculum as much as can be supported. We are a growing community and more than half are free or reduced lunch. The kindergarten group is a playful bunch and this year predominately boys!
Most of the children are new to the school setting and are very curious about their surroundings.
Our kindergarten population has recently expanded and now we have up to 90 children playing on the kindergarten playground. I would like to begin creating a positive outdoor play environment where all the class can use the space for science exploration, art, physical education, and so much more! I want to make the kindergarten yard something to be proud of.
My Project
If our project is funded we will be able to move our centers outside. Students will have room to write in their science journals, play with manipulative tools, and have snacks! Also, tables will bring students together at recess and snack time. If we had a table we will be able to do more science, art, and puzzles in the sunshine.
Students work better when they are in a positive environment.
What better place to explore then outside! We can plant seeds, investigate with measuring tools, and create beautiful art pieces. Tables outside will inspire us and give us space to do work!
