This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Flexible seating allows scholars to be engaged, attentive, and have a choice of where they feel more successful completing their work. It allows them to take charge of their learning. I want my scholars to feel like they belong especially since they are all coming from different classrooms during their intervention block. The sole purpose of my classroom is to help scholars that are at-risk and/or struggle with their reading and math. We also help support scholars that are behavior or need additional supports outside the general classroom.
Therefore, flexible seating will allow my classroom to feel more welcoming and support the closing of gaps while supporting their engagement.
The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices. The carpet and stools can provide options when working in groups and be another option besides their regular desks. The comfy floor seats can help those that might not have space at the carpet, but would prefer the floor to work. Currently, I have students sitting on the floor or under tables; thus, I feel the comfy floor seats could be a great substitute for the floor. The wobble cushion can help my scholars that just need to get their wiggles out. I feel that it will allow them to be more focused and complete their assignments. As a result, all the options for flexible seating can engage my students more and take out all the other factors that prevent them from learning and so help minimize the gaps they have in reading and math.
I have seen how my scholars taking control of their learning is beneficial especially with scholars attempting to close gaps. Therefore, I hope that the additional options will help us grow even more!
