Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are the hardest working and most academic driven students I have ever worked with. Most of the time, school is their only safe place - the one location they can thrive without fear of negative outside influences.
Often times, students will work at the school on Saturdays, during holidays, and many hours after school to avoid going home.
Because these awesome, wonderful, intelligent people spend so much time at school, I want their learning environment to be as safe and comfortable as possible. Our classroom needs to be a safe haven for as many students as possible.
My Project
This furniture will continue to enhance the flexible seating area that I strive to create in my classroom. Our flexible seating area, nicknamed the Living Room, is a place that my students love! They read, work, and talk about academics independently. Every piece of furniture that is placed in the living room is treated with love and care, and the students are thankful for the opportunity to be out of the stiff desks which hurts their joints. All the furniture that is in our classroom is chosen with the students in mind. Will the furniture be too hard, too soft, or just right? Will it allow for academic conversation to flow? Will students be able to see each other and engage in learning? These are all decisions that the students and I make together when selecting furniture for our classroom.
