This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As students first set foot on campus, they feel a sense of accomplishment and hope. The majority of our student-athletes are first-generation high school students, and many have not participated in organized sports; high school represents a new beginning filled with new possibilities.
For the majority of our student-athletes, high school is the first opportunity to be part of a team.
As they embark on a new chapter in their life, students are looking for the tools that will help them write a memorable chapter. Clubs and athletic teams keep students engaged and provide what students seek — a sense of community. The community developed through sports provides students with an opportunity to strengthen their ties with the school as a whole. When students feel part of the school culture, they will thrive both in and out of the classroom.
Extracurricular activities, such as sports and clubs, are important to our student-athletes because they help them grow beyond the classroom since sports nurture skills, such as leadership, time management, empathy, and collaboration.
All of our students join wrestling for a variety of reasons, but they all get more out of it than they expect. Wrestling sharpens their balance, strength, speed, and spatial awareness. Over time, our singlets wear out due to the intense effort our students put into every dual match and tournament. Every year, we welcome over 80 athletes into our program, and we must restock on gear since our student-athletes need singlets to compete.
By donating to our project, you will help our young athletes have a successful season, and look good in the process. Students will be able to focus on training and competing, without worrying about what to wear to competitions.
