This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a teacher in a school that services students who come from low income working class families that live in or close to one of Los Angeles low income housing complexes.

My students are some of the most creative 1st graders you will ever meet.

They are smart enthusiastic learners who enjoy learning and listening to stories read to them. They love to come to school to absorb as much knowledge as possible to help them prepare for their future.

My Project

My students love to sing and I have found that they remember facts and information when they are connected to music. Knowing this, I incorporate music in my lessons as much as I can. I especially like to connect music to math and financial literacy because it helps my students with counting, skip counting and many other math concepts.

The money unit is approaching in my class, this unit introduces coins, their value, attributes and how to count them.

Having this knowledge lays the foundation for financial literacy with my students.

I am requesting portable and durable CD players so that my students can use to sing math songs, counting songs, and money connected songs. By learning these songs, they will have greater ease in mastering the concepts that will be introduced in the money unit.
