Singing, Signing and Learning Time!

My Students

My little ones struggle to speak and need to build their vocabulary and confidence. Research has shown that using signs, as well as music, is beneficial for children with special needs. These instructional DVDs and CDs will be our guides.

My preschool special education class provides early intervention services to qualifying special needs children. My class size ranges between 6-8 students, ages 3-4 years. My school is located in a predominantly rural, low-income neighborhood with a considerable portion of the children of Hawaiian and/or Pacific Island ancestry.

My Project

The Signing Time! DVDs and CDs are the perfect fit for my students with speech/language challenges and other developmental delays. Each DVD has a theme in which vocabulary is presented both in sign and print. There follows a short section of video with young children signing each word, and concludes with the theme summarized in songs. The presentation reinforces the introduced vocabulary in a very kid-friendly and catchy fashion--"if those kids can sign it, so can I". In addition, it will be nice to add this song collection (songs from the DVDs) to the array of music that we listen and dance to daily. What better way to enhance my students' learning than through song, sign and print?

Several years ago I attended a workshop conducted by Rachel Carson, the woman behind Signing Times!--what a talent and inspiration.

I've heard and read testimonials about these DVDs and have wanted a set of her Signing Time! DVDs for my students ever since. Thank you for your support in getting these learning tools for my students.
