My students need vocal song books and method books to take to contest, a vocal course multimedia set, and "Music from the Inside Out" for musical history and cross-curricular study.
My students have amazing personalities and all have something to contribute to our school and our community. The sky is the limit for these kids-they are resilient, hard-working and kind. While many of my students are low income, they are a joy to teach and have much potential to do great things in their future.
Some of my students do not realize that they love music until they spend a little time making it, and then they transform in front of my eyes.
Helping them to become part of a team that works together and supports one another is one of the things I love most about teaching these students. They learn from me, but I learn just as much from them.
My Project
I am requesting a variety of vocal song books with accompaniment CD's for my students to take to solo and ensemble contest in the spring. My students can also learn these solos and duets for fundraisers that we have in the future, and the CD accompaniment and guides can even help the students to learn the music independently outside of class.I am requesting a book for warm-up resources to incorporate a wider variety of warm-ups in my class. I am requesting "Music from the Inside Out" to help with the students knowledge of music history and cross-curricular topics. Finally, I am requesting a DVD and CD set that I can play for the students which will lead them through fundamentals such as breathing and flexibility exercises. This will also be very useful if I have to be absent. This way, the students can still get some music practice in with me being gone.
I have a lot of confidence in what my students are able to accomplish, and my hope is that with the necessary resources, they will realize it too.
As it currently stands, we have a limited number of method books and accompaniment CD's, so students may not be able to choose a piece that they can be successful with. However, with the materials I have requested, this will provide much greater opportunities to find something that they like. We have not gone to many contests in the past, and my hope is that with more instructional materials, this can be possible in the future.
