Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Learning how to identify, knowing the value and counting coins is an important part of living in our society. How can we expect students to be financially responsible when they grow up, if they do not understand the value and importance of money from an early age?

I am a teacher in a school that services students who come from low income working class families that live in or close to one of Los Angeles low income housing complexes.

My students are some of the most creative 1st graders you can ever meet. They are smart enthusiastic learners who enjoy learning and listening to stories read to them

My Project

In order to count coins one must first learn to count by 1's, 5's and 10's since my students love to sing I would like to have an iPod and dock station to play a variety of counting and math songs for them. Through singing they will learn to count in a variety of ways which will lead them to counting a variety of coins. When my students master counting they will use the money manipulatives that I am requesting to help identify and know the value and attributes of all coins. Lastly I would like ink to print a variety of money related flash cards. My students will be able to use these cards at school as well as at home to learn how to identify, know the value and count a variety of coins. All of these materials will lead my students to learn and master the concept of money. Only by knowing the value of money will they start to lead a financially responsible life.

Thank you for taking the time to read this proposal.

If you decide to donate you will be helping my students be financially literate and build a solid foundation on the importance of being financially responsible. Thank you!
