My Students
My students live in a low-income, high-poverty area in suburban St. Louis. We are a Title I school, and the majority of my students are only able to experience music performance experiences through the classes offered at our school.
My students arrive to class every day eager to experience how music can make the world a better place.
My students know that our music classroom is a safe space where they can engage in self-expression and share their love of music with others who love it, too! Students who are in our music classes find a community among their peers that allows them to have positive peer relationships and interactions.
We love to learn about a variety of musical styles, develop music literacy , and become lifelong performers and consumers of music. My students regularly engage in ongoing self- and peer-assessment so that they learn how to give and accept respectful, constructive feedback to become the best musicians they can be!
My Project
Due to COVID-19, our district has made the decision to start our school year with 100% virtual/distance learning. This means my students will be learning about music and rehearsing for choir from their homes for at least the first several weeks of the school year. For students who have siblings or other family members at home with them, background noise can make listening to music or recording themselves a challenge.
This project will make sure that any of my students who need headphones for virutal/distance learning are able to have a set.
These headphones will help students be able to focus when listening to musical examples and during self-assessment of their own performances. The in-line microphones will help students make better recordings of their singing to turn in so that the focus is on their progress and not any background noise. This will help students receive more accurate feedback which will help them grow and become more confident in their skills as musicians!
