"Sing in me, Muse, and through me tell the story / of that man skilled in all ways contending, / the wanderer harried for years on end / after he plundered the stronghold / on the proud heights of Troy" (Lines 1-5).
The story of The Odyssey has captured the imagination of students for centuries, and we are excited to introduce it to a new generation of 9th graders.
Together we will set sail on the wine-dark sea, with grey-eyed Athena as our guide! Hotheaded Odysseus, the Cyclops, the Lotus eaters, the enchantress Circe and beautiful Calypso, wise Penelope and thoughtful Telemachus, earth-shaking Poseidon and mighty Zeus - students will meet these ancient characters and discover the joy of Greek mythology.
Help us purchase a full class set, 100 copies, of The Odyssey's most famous and beloved translation by Robert Fitzgerald.
