Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This is a digital world. Many of our most beloved reading materials are now provided digitally rather than in hard copy. A subscription to Music Express Magazine will allow my students to have the best of both worlds by providing the magazine in both traditional and digital media.
My students LOVE music.
They bring real joy to the creation of music during class and about any type of music we happen to study. My school has a very high rate of students who qualify for free or reduced lunch and because of our high number of students who have very little materially, we are a Title 1 school. Additionally, most of my students are learning English as a second language. My students have limited access to technology at home and what they do have is largely unsupervised.
My Project
I am requesting a subscription to Music Express Magazine 2011-2012. This subscription will include 6 issues, with Teacher edition, music CD, 30 student editions and an interactive CD-ROM that I can use with my activeboard/computer. Music Express Magazine includes all types of songs from traditional folk songs & Broadway hits to world music. Every issue has a special feature of a "student appropriate" version of popular music. There are interviews with all types of musicians as well lessons about music history. The dances and listening maps are huge hits with my kids.
Additionally, I am requesting "Luigi's Baton" which is a CD-ROM compilation of songs and activities that were released in installments in Music Express Magazine 2010-2011 that deal with the orchestra.
I've been a fan of Music Express Magazine for years. I inherited one set of magazines and my students LOVE them. I am excited to be able to incorporate this beloved magazine into my use of technology.
No matter if the format is a book or magazine in your hand, or an article on line, non-fiction reading is a part of every day life.
In order for my students to reach their potential, their ability to read non-fiction text must improve dramatically. Reading non-fiction text in music is like your mom sneaking in extra vegetables in the spaghetti sauce. You enjoy it so much you don't even know it was extra good for you. Music Express Magazine will help my students beef up their reading skills.
