My Students
Working with students in the Gifted Education program, my biggest goal is to stretch their thinking! Many of these students are used to getting all the answers right without putting forth a great deal of effort. I plan to change that! I want my students to explore challenging possibilities
Reading a book and answering questions or doing vocabulary activities may not be the most exciting way for everyone to learn; especially if you do well in school without having to try very hard.
Small groups of 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students (many of whom are like the description above) come to me for enrichment. I want to give them the extra push in order to make sure that learning continues to happen for these students.
My Project
While working with small groups of students for academic enrichment, I want to stretch their thinking and problem solving skills using problem-solving based learning. Students are presented with situations (problems) and then must design and create ways to deal with those situations and/or solve the problems.
With the simple tools of markers, colored pencils scissors, and glue sticks, students will be challenged even more by figuring out how to use the limited resources provided!
These activities challenge student thinking by making students think about what they know about the situation/problem, what they need to know about the situation/problem, and what to do next/how to solve or deal with the situation/problem. These tools will help students work through this process, especially the large pieces of paper.
