My Students

My students dream BIG! They inspire me every day to help them achieve their unique dreams and goals. Without basic school supplies we find challenges that you can help us overcome! We are looking to start this year on the right foot - PREPARED for academic success!

I teach three ultra-inspiring 7th grade classes in what is considered an 'economically-disadvantaged' middle school.

Extra money is not something that my students and their parents/guardians regularly have, if ever. I keep aware of this, and make my school supply list very short and sweet for my kids, knowing that inevitably I will end up purchasing notebooks, pencils, folders, erasers and such out of my own pocket to help out some students. I cannot "require" my students to continually purchase additional supplies as they dwindle, dull, break, and become misplaced - as middle school students can sometimes misplace things! This is the challenge I face in helping students develop senses of organization, accountability, and clear presentation skills - all while teaching mathematics through artistic exploration and maintaining a math classroom for 300 students! It would be a real confidence booster for my students to return from the summer to a well stocked, well curated classroom!

My Project

My middle school students will create high school portfolios that they will bring with them on interviews that will determine their future successes. By creating articulate and precise portfolios that are complete with organized and beautifully crafted work, my students will be able to document their successes in the world of math. With a consistent supply of pencils, paper, folders, erasers, and sharpeners my students could create math masterpieces that will supplement their high school applications, allowing them to stand out from the crowd. I am requesting pencils, colored pencils, folders, paper, notebooks, and some fun math reference books - all of which will serve my students in the creation of their mathematics portfolios for high school application. The school at which I work is specifically lacking in the ability to provide students with access to basic materials in a sustainable and functional fashion.

When my students have consistent access to basic supplies their outlook will be positively affected in that they will be empowered to confidently create portfolio pieces that will display their math prowess.

With your help, my students will be able to express their unique selves in an organized fashion and show their classmates examples of their hard work and dedication. Your contribution to this project will ensure that my students return from the summer to well prepared classroom - thank you!
