Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

You can be a part of creating a collaborative learning environment that is vital in developing the minds of our future leaders. Establishing a positive and stimulating classroom culture is absolutely necessary for our students' success.

I teach 25 fourth graders in all subject areas.

The range of abilities varies greatly but all of my students share an enthusiasm for learning and are exceptional at working together. My students have a special bond that creates a collaborative learning community, thus they use language as a tool to construct meaning by discussing their ideas and supporting one another's learning progress. My students are naturally inquisitive and their diversity generates a rich learning environment. Every student shares a unique perspective molded by his or her experiences and although the needs of students differ dramatically, all of them understand the importance of high expectations and are committed to improving learning. Despite the daily obstacles that our children face, they are incredibly resilient and hungry for knowledge. We embrace challenges. Our kids are driven to improve themselves and our world.

My Project

Seemingly simple stools will in fact take on many roles in our classroom. These stools will provide countless opportunities for students to take learning beyond our four walls. The stools will be perfect "notebooking nooks" as students participate in inquiry-based activities; exploring our school's nature trail, our class garden, as well as indoor stations around our aquarium and reptile tank. The stools will also promote literacy at our "readers' round table". They will be great for guided reading, literature circles, buddy reading, and individual conferences. The possibilities are endless.

It is critical for our kids to gain skills necessary to compete in the 21st century. These materials will ensure that our children are immersed in an inquiry-based environment across our school campus. Children will realize that learning can happen anywhere. Just imagine the concepts they'll be motivated to explore.
