My students need laminating pouches and velcro for students who have fine motor difficulties but are still working on academic tasks. My students also need an organized library and math manipulatives to practice their counting.
Imagine having to learn a new concept with a cognitive disability, sensory processing disorder, and communication disorder. Activities that may seem simple, such as listening to a story or writing your name are difficult to sit through, and you struggle to find the words to express what you need.
In my classroom of 14 students in Kindergarten through 2nd grade, each student learns in unique and special ways.
These students have a passion for music, dance, and learning through hands on multisensory activities! A few of the disabilities present in my classroom are as follows: Autism, Down syndrome, and Cognitive Delays. Each day we work on functional life skills, communicating basic wants and needs, and functional academics.
Each student works hard despite the challenges they face, but require many tools in order to be successful and reach their maximum level of independence.
My Project
My students are passionate about learning, but each have very distinct needs. I have blown through my budget and used much of my own money to help create the materials and environment necessary for my classroom.
With your help, I can create independence in each area of my classroom!
I am asking for laminating pouches and velcro to help create durable materials for my students with fine motor difficulties so that they can work on academic and functional skills more independently. I am also asking for a counting puzzle to help build my math stations for students working on counting with 1:1 correspondence and identifying numbers. Finally, I have asked for bins to organize my classroom library. My students love to read and the library shows it! I am hoping to create an organized system with matching pictures on books and bins to help students put them back where they found them.
