My Project

Having 10 Thames & Kosmos Simple Machine kits will allow my STEM students to work in small groups to reinforce what they have learned about simple machines in their science class. Being able to follow the complex diagrams and instructions will give them experience in basic mechanical engineering.

The Thames & Kosmos Simple Machine kit provides 26 model-building exercises that will give the students an opportunity to investigate 6 simple machines.

Having multiple kits available, the students will be able to work in pairs or groups of three, ensuring that each student has an opportunity for a hands-on experience.

We are in a small, rural school where 44% of our students are in the free and reduced price lunch program. Our sixth-grade library class allows for time to engage in STEM projects, however, it can be a challenge to provide enough materials to allow all students to participate in one class period. Having access to 10 kits will make a big difference in providing opportunities for whole class instruction along with hands-on activities to support that instruction.
