This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This year there are currently just under 600 students enrolled at GMS. We celebrate diversity here at GMS and it is one of our greatest strengths, from our staff to our students. We are an ELT school which means we have an extended school day. Doors open at 7:20am and students can come in and grab breakfast before class starts at 7:30am. Our school day ends at 3:55pm and yes this is a long day for our students! That's one of the reasons why I wanted to design and teach an interactive and project based learning environment for students and to be able to really target all learners.

My Project

Students in 8th grade will take my Simple Circuits class for one Semester. During this class students will be working with some basic electronic components and connecting them via breadboards. As a lot of students share the materials there is quite a turnover on materials each year, (approximately 180 students will take this class in the '17/'18 school year) and it is challenging to keep up with the demand for supplies . This year I hope to replenish the amounts of components I currently have as well as adding some new components that will enable the students to build a solar powered cell phone charger! A Soldering Iron, 4V Solar panels, AA rechargeable batteries and battery holders are some of the components that your donations will go towards.
