Similarity Memorial Quilts

Help me give my students the materials they need for their geometry quilting project! This project is all about students using geometry skills to memorialize a person, place, thing, memory, etc. from their life.

My Project

This will be the 2nd year that I will be doing this quilting project with my geometry classes & will be expanding the project to do it with the other geometry teachers’ classes. One thing we learned last year was that we needed more scissors, fabric pens, cutting boards, rulers, etc. so students weren't waiting around all period to use materials.

Each student will construct their own quilt block memorializing a significant memory in their life.

This memory can be a person, place, event, hobby, etc. as long as it is significant. We will be using an ethnic studies approach for this. Students will apply knowledge from geometry standards: transformations, similarity, congruence, and constructions. Having these extra materials will allow students more time to create their memorial quilts & provide space for deeper analysis work. Thank you for supporting my students!
