Hello! I am a first grade teacher in Durham County, North Carolina. I love my job and I love my kids! Everyday I try to find ways to make school even more enjoyable for them than the day before. It is so important to keep their love of learning alive!
In first grade we are always working to help build students' sight word vocabulary. Sight words are words that students can recognize and read on sight. By increasing each students' sight word vocabulary, a student's fluency, reading comprehension, and reading level also increases. One of the literacy centers in our classroom focuses on building sight word knowledge.
I would like to give my students some new resources in this center. One of these is a set of sight word magnets. The students could use these magnets to sort words, create new sentences, and practice reading. Another resource is the Tub O' Sight Words. This tub comes with over 300 sight words and word practice sheets that involve activities like finding and writing certain sight words, unscrambling sight words, and finding certain words to complete a sentence. Not only would these resources help students learn words, but would make learning a treat!
