Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a reading teacher and my students are small groups of four students in Kindergarten through Five I keep them for 8 weeks and then after we retest the students, we create another list of students who need help.
We play 'who knows the most' sight words every week using flash cards.
They love trying to beat their classmates to see who knows the most!
Many are ESL students and so these cards help them acquire vocabulary, also.
My Project
Students need to master sight words in order to become proficient readers. Many of the words are not phonetic so the students have to memorize them
Having their own take-home flashcards is exciting for the students!
They can play games with them. They can teach their younger brothers and sisters to give them a heads start.
My small reading groups love to see 'who knows the most' . They also enjoy seeing their progress through weekly sight words testing.
Having their very own sight words flash cards at home gives them a great studying resource!
