Students at my school come from all walks of life. There is a commonality among all of them though; the willingness and thirst to learn. My students are hard workers and motivated learners. They come with a myriad of learning styles and require many different strategies to meet their needs.
As a generation of "tech-kids", my students have the NEED to move.
Whether the lessons have to do with technology or not, the energy they are spending trying to sit still detracts from their ability to learn. My babies are wiggling all over the place, and I am trying to find a way to help promote comfortable, productive learning. As a 20 year veteran teacher I have seen the needs of children change. By thinking outside of the box and moving away from the traditional desks and chairs I believe I can better meet their needs!
My Project
Flexible seating is a new and innovative trend in education which is a direct response to our children’s exposure to technology and their focus in the classroom. In the past 5 to 10 years I have noticed a dramatic shift in my students’ ability to sit still while paying attention. Noticing that many educators simply bemoan the issue, I choose to be proactive in finding a solution. I believe 100% in our childrens’ ability to learn, but through an alternative modality. Rather than fighting the inevitable evolution of technology, I am choosing a growth mindset. The materials that I am asking for are just the tip of the iceberg in transforming my room from traditional seating to an environment better suited to today’s learners!
