This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are creative, talented and focused. Unfortunately, most of my students cannot afford to purchase or even contribute to a costume fund for our show. Most of my students live in poverty but that doesn't mean their lives can't be rich in artistry. I teach in a struggling school in the South Bronx. Our students face many challenges in their lives but they are spirited and hardworking.

We are back!

This year our winter musical will be Shrek! The students perform a musical for the parents and students in our school community. My students have the talent and the drive but not the financial resources needed to create a play of this magnitude. We are in need of costume items for the main characters in our musical. These costume items will bring the show to life.

Costumes give the show its zing and, more importantly, make the children feel special. There is nothing better than seeing my students' eyes light up when they try on a costume or dance with a prop for the first time.
