Showcasing Success With an Apple TV

Help me give my students an interactive learning experience with an Apple TV, television, and wall mount to create engagement among our students and to showcase their work!

My Students

I am the intervention specialist in a second grade, full inclusion classroom. Not only do I co-teach in the classroom, I also manage the IEPs and goals of the nine students with disabilities. In the school system where I teach, more than half of our students are low-income students. More often than not, some of my students come to school without even their most basic needs being met. Even with these barriers, this does not stop my amazing students from coming to school eager and anxious to learn and be the best they can be!

My students' disabilities range from mild to intensive, so I strive to make sure all of my students learn, no matter their ability levels, in this setting.

There is a lot of differentiated teaching and learning going on throughout the day to make sure I am meeting the needs of all of the students. This typically means I need to make sure I have a variety of resources at my fingertips to be able to provide my students with everything they need to be able to learn. My goal is to set them up to be independent, contributing members to society in the future!

My Project

Students learn a great deal by explaining their ideas to others and by participating in activities in which they can learn from their peers. Our amazing students strive to be leaders every day and they show so much growth when we put instructional strategies in place that allow students to be more actively involved in the learning process. Learner-centered education and inquiry-based learning have been a huge focus in our school this year. We have done some amazing STEM projects including constructing sailboats and ramps with the use of our awesome makerspace. With the Apple TV, we could allow students to access apps on the iPads to plan their projects and map out a design. Airplay would allow students to share their innovative ideas on the tv for the class to see.

With the Apple TV, our students would have the opportunity to take greater initiative and responsibility to manage more of their own learning and educational/personal development.

With the iPads, our students can search, collect, analyze, evaluate, integrate, and apply information to complete assignments or solve a problem. With the TV mounted on the wall for all to see and with Airplay, our students could display their work and engage in opportunities to be leaders and educate their fellow classmates on their ideas.

These resources would enhance our students' critical thinking and problem-solving skills, communication and teamwork skills, as well as cultivate a fun, engaging environment for our students to interact within.
