My Students

"I care more about the people my students become than the scores on the tests they take." - Anonymous. I feel honored to be able to watch the discovery and exploration of my students every day. Their contagious curiosity makes our time together seem so much more important than anything else.

My students are from a low socioeconomic neighborhood where stability is a novelty for many of them.

In our classroom, we establish routines, familiarity, reliability, and trust. It is incredible to see how they transform from shy, unsure children on the first day to full blown investigators and collaborators as our year progresses. My students show so much pride in everything they do. I want to properly showcase this pride and sense of accomplishment to anyone who comes into our classroom.

My Project

These binders will help my students have a proper place to display their hard work. The binders are sturdy enough to hold hundreds of papers no matter what art materials are glued to them or how many writing entries they make. This portfolio system will also look appealing and important which will encourage them to put their finest work inside their portfolio and to be proud of their hard work. My goal is to have the binders beautifully displayed near where the parents come to sign their child in and out. The parents would be invited to look through their child's work to see their progress as well as the students will be excited to show them their work and share their memories of each entry. The portfolios will showcase pictures of their hands-on exploration in the classroom, memorable events, anecdotal quotes from the year, and their personal work samples.

I know my students already show pride in their work and are excited to show their families and myself what they have achieved.

However, with this project being funded, I will give my students the opportunity to make their own portfolios which can aide in their independence skills, work performance, critique of their own work, and of course, pride. At the end of the year, the students will be able to show their work portfolio to their families to present how far they have grown over the year.
