Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

My students are fourth-graders in an Expeditionary Learning Education school. They participate in academically rigorous, project-based learning expeditions and organize service-learning projects. This allows them to think and work as professionals, contributing high-quality work to authentic audiences beyond the classroom.

Our approach to curriculum makes the standards come alive for our students by connecting learning to real-world issues and needs as we work to make the world a better place.

My students must complete two service-learning projects a year that contribute to a better world and are required to keep a portfolio to document their learning. These projects require the students to create high-quality work, which is achieved with multiple drafts, feedback, and revisions.

My students are requesting a photo printer, extra ink, photo paper, and laminating sheets so they can display their high-quality work professionally!

My students are responsible for their own learning as well as teaching their classmates and community members. Being able to print pictures of their work and service in the community makes the process that much more meaningful!
