My Students
Our inner-city students come from various backgrounds, and English is not always their native language. They come to school wanting to learn, and they work hard because school is the safest place for a lot of them. We are a Title I school where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
When working in the Discovery Lab, it’s about taking the science learning from their classroom, applying creative thinking and design skills to a real world STEAM project where students are encouraged to imagine all the possibilities when their creative thinking meshes with engineering.
Students see how the Engineering & Design process can be used in everyday life throughout our world.
When students enter my lab, excitement builds because they know they have challenges that they need to face like engineers, scientists, and many other creative professionals do in the real world. Students love working with their hands to create something or solve a problem. Our school is a wonderful place to learn because of the environment created by the staff. We show our love of learning with our students.
My Project
Having the ability to quickly show what you know is essential in today's learning environment. When students have the ability to display their learning, it helps teachers quickly assess where they are and where they need to go. While in the Discovery Lab, students need to display their thinking - why not have a quick way to draw out your ideas and show it not only to the teacher, but to the entire classroom too! The dry erase boards come with markers and erasers so little hands won't get dirty.
We are also asking for a giant magnetic dry erase board to help student draw out their ideas in a large scales - which will help out with projects.
Students will be able to also use this space for their magnetic building centers which they love to use every chance they get. Having the ability to use things in multiple ways just makes our materials more versatile. Please help our students be able to show what they know in class!
