This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Of all the schools in our large county, our school services the most homeless shelters. It is in the middle of a low-income neighborhood in South Florida. About 100% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch and about twenty percent of students live in one of the four shelters around our school. Due to the special circumstances many of our students face, our mobility rate is very high. As a result, very often we see many faces only for a short while.
My students come from all walks of life.
Yet, despite the many challenges they face, most of my students come with that inquisitive sparkle and a sense of curiosity when their interests are peaked.
My Project
Although they do not diminish our efforts, there are many figurative bumps in the road on our quest to provide the best education for our students. What's one of the biggest challenges? I would say a lack of working or appropriate technology to enhance lessons.
When you're in a classroom full of kiddos, you often find them climbing over each other to get a good view of a good book, science models, or just examples of each other's work.
A visual presenter document camera would solve this problem. No more crowding around the table trying to catch a glimpse of the tiny diagram, the tiny rock sample, the tiny writing samples in classmate's journal or the tiny picture on the bottom of page 7.
